This quote stood out to me because this is Titus' father talking to him. This doesn't seam like a father talking to a son. It seams like a friend talking to a friend. Also, the way he's talking. He seams very immature and childish. This is the way I picture an adult with a low education talks.

  2. "We were frightened, and kept touching our heads. Suddenly, our heads felt real empty." Pg.44 p. 3 This part of the passage shows that the characters did not know what to do with themselves once they didn't have the feed "on." The have been so dependent on the feed for so long that it felt so weird to them not to have a little computer chip constantly talking to them. It really shows that their society makes them depend on technology in order to make it though their daily lives, and that they feel incomplete without it. Our society is sort of like this, but not to the extent of the "feed." Almost every single person has a cellphone and has it on them every hour of the day. Most people nowadays would feel like they would not be able to function without their cellphones, which is like the characters in feed.

    1. Alexandra, I like how you compared our world to the feeds with this quote. I think it illustrates a huge difference between the society in the book and the society we are used to.

  3. "I asked, 'Why don't you use the feed? It's way faster.'
"'Im pretentious,' she said. 'Really pretentious.'
This was a conversation between Violet and Titus. This quote is significant because it gives a bit more detail as to how violet is like and her reason for fighting the feed. I learn that in this society, people have become so dependent on technology that it is impossible to go back to primitive ways. I sometimes think why she is pretentious with the feed?

  4. "The boat was on a pond or maybe a lake. I couldn't find anything interesting about that picture at all." This quote shows that most people like Titus can't think for themselves without the feed. It also shows that the society is very reliant on technology because they can't think at all without the feed. The society of this time is very lazy because they basically can't do anything without the feed.

    1. Yeah, that quote stuck out to me too. Makes you wonder what's going to happen to activities like painting and writing when pretty much everyone can't see a point in them.

  5. "Computers were all outside the body. They carried them around outside of them, in their hands, like if you carried your lungs in a briefcase and opened it to breathe." Page 47.

This quote shows just how important technology has become to people who live in the time period of Feed. Comparing cell phones to organs as important as one's lungs supports this. To a character in Feed, being without technology would be the equivalent of being unable to breathe.

    1. I would agree with this. it's as if they wouldn't know what to do if they didn't have the feed. like if we didn't have phones we wouldn't know what to do. I just think that the amount that the people of feed rely on technology is incredible.

  6. "I don't know when they first had feeds. Like maybe, fifty or a hundred years ago. Before that, they had to use their hands and their eyes"(Pg.47). This quote is significant due to the main characters perspective of people who didn't have feeds. He thinks that it's "different" to use his hands and eyes to get things done. This quote also shows some apathy about history because he doesn't know a more specific date when the feeds were actually invented.

    1. I agree to your view on Titus' perspective of feedless people. It also makes me believe that people without the feed are shunned from society; They are a minority. To be without the feed is something incomprehensible to their society. This quote also leads to me believe, not many people are without a feed.

  7. "'This is the language called basic, ,' she said. On the paper, it said 002110 goto 013500 013500 peek 16388, 236 013510 poke 16389,236" (pg. 65) When I read this chapter and saw the name "dead language" I thought of Latin. I thought of that because Latin is considered a dead language right now, but when I read on and violet said, 'they're languages...' I realized there's more than one and thought one of them might be the way we talk right now.

    1. Wow. That's an interesting way to think of this. Now that I think about dead languages I start thinking of Latin.

  8. "She's like, whoa, she's like so stressed out. This is... Dude, dude this is some way bad shit." This quote is significant because it explains the way that Tittus's dad talks. I find this very strange because his dad is a business man and I can't picture him talking like this to his son. The language that he uses sounds like the way that teenagers talk to each other. This quote relates to the language and communication theme because it seems like the feed is taking over their communication and they are going to forget how to talk over time. -Hayle Saari

I agree to what you are saying and also say that Titus's Dad isn't the only to talk like. An explain of that is when Titus was getting his feed fix, the doctor there spoke like a teen and didn't know the of the equipment he was using.

  9. "Computers were all outside the body. They carried them around outside of them, in their hands, like if you carried your lungs in a briefcase and opened it to breath." Pg 47
This shows they are dependent on technology like they are dependent on lungs.

    1. This is a good comparison. Lungs are a necessity to live in our society as technology and computers are a necessity in their society. But your lungs aren't going to work forever, which illustrates that the feed isn't going to work forever.

    2. I feel like the comparison the author uses is a little too intense. Without the feed and technology, life would be harder but it would still go on. Without lung, you would die. So I feel like this comparison is not very accurate.

  10. "I missed the feed. I don't know when they first had feeds. Like, maybe fifty or a hundred years ago. Before that, they had to use their hands and their eyes. Computers were all outside the body." (Page 47) This part of the book stood out to me the most because it showed me how much they relied on the feed, and how it shocked them people actually had to use a computer, outside of their brains, to find information out. When Titus and his friends had their feeds taken away from them, only for a short period of time, it was like they had to think for themselves and couldn't immediately chat people or find sales. It not only amazes me how the feed is just a computer in your brain, but it also got me to think that they might not have been educated properly. Because, when they spoke with and without the feed, they didn't speak accurately and used mostly slang words. Without the feed, they couldn't find the words they wanted to say because the feed usually finished their sentences for them.

  11. "The boat was on a pond or maybe a lake. I couldn't find anything interesting about that picture at all." When Titus's feed was turned off he was unable to think for himself or communicate by himself. He is not even able to comprehend a simple picture in is hospital room. This is one example on how dependent the people of this future are on there feeds. This also shows the complete lack of intelligence due to the fact that there feeds do all of there thinking.

  12. "One of them had a picture of a boat on it. The boat was on a pond or maybe a lake. I couldn't find anything interesting about that picture at all." Page 45. This quote makes me think about how people in Titus's time period and ours too aren't as interested in simple things like pictures. For Titus and the people of his time period this is because of the feed. The feed constantly keeps everyone entertained. We have a similar situation today with our computers and iPads, but not quite as bad as in the feed.

  13. "Okay. Could we like get a thingie, a reading on his limbic activity?" (Pg.69) This quote is by the doctor that was caring for Titus and his friends. In this quote the doctor refers to a reading of limbic activity as a thingie, this makes him sound much less intelligent than the average medical doctor. This makes you ask the question, is the feed effecting the intelligence of people living in this era?

  14. "She asked me, "do you know how to read?"
I nodded. "I can read. A little. I kind of protested it in School™." Pg. 65
I picked this quote from part two because I found that it was really shocking that Titus can not really read. I think this shows that the feed is really taking over people because they don't even know how to read anymore or write. The feed knows how to do everything for you, but is also making you more dumb. He also said that he protested it in "school™". It's like the feed is some sort of program that you have to go to. He protested it to get rid of it so you can have the feed takeover your mind.

  15. "I was currently disconnected from feed net, of course, and I was starting to get scared, so I tried to chat parents, I tried to chat them on Earth, but there was no transmission etc., I was currently etc." (P.41) This quote is significant because it shows how dependent Titus is on technology and the feed. Since he didn't have his feed he thought something terrible happened, because he tried calling his parents first, which obviously makes us feel that he was very concerned with his safety.

  16. Pg. 47 "They carried them around outside of them, in their hands, like you carried your lungs in a brief case and opened it to breathe". When I first saw this quote I had to read it over again because it stood out so substantially to me. Titus is referring to our laptops in this day of age as lungs being carried outside of us. You need your lungs to breathe and Titus finds it astonishing that back in the day they didn't have the feed. He is saying that they need the feed to live as we need lungs to breathe. It's a very thought provoking quote.

  17. "And the feed was pouring in on us now, all of it... it came down like water, like rain, and we danced in it." Page 70

From this quote, I conclude that Titus and his friends are way to depend on the feed because they were getting to excited to have their feeds back online. During the time their feeds were off, they all had a hard time talking to each other face to face because they don't know what to say to each other and the feed was not there to give them idea to talk about. This shows that the feed has became an important part of their lives and will have a hard time living without it.

  18. "Violet was off someplace talking to the doctor. I say someplace because we were using the blow needles at the anatomical guys desk."

This sentence speaks volumes over the ignorance and stupidity of the generation in this future. Having not known what the doctors profession, but also meddling in his work.

  19. "That's one great thing about the feed- that you can be super smart without even working. Everyone is super smart now."
This quote stood out because it is basically saying that there is no longer a need for school because there is nothing to learn. Since they can just look anything up, there is no need to learn anything.

  20. "I asked, 'Why don't you use the feed? It's way faster.'
"'Im pretentious,' she said. 'Really pretentious.'
This quote is significant because it shows how much people use the feed and how technology has taken over their society. And this quote also shows how much their society depends on it. But if this is kept up, humans will incapable of doing anything and the computers will take over.
