  1. I think M.T. Andersons purpose in writing Feed is to make people aware of how dangerous technology could get if it advances to the point that its all in your head. Violet got it installed when she was older and it killed her. In my opinion, the lesson of Feed is to take a break. Instead of being on the internet all day you should hang out with friends or just chill out without browsing the internet.

    1. I agree with this. Even though it would be great to have a feed, there are still many down sides to it. Having real relationships that don't revolve around technology can help slow down or stop the process of us turning into the characters from the book.

    2. I completely agree. Technology is advancing everyday and it get could get to the point that the feed could exist one day.

    3. I agree with this because I feel like a lot of times people are centered around technology and we tend to forget to go outside and actually have a social life without our phones

    4. Yeah, this book really makes you think about what's going to happen if things keep progressing the way they are. Many people already prefer to communicate electronically rather than in person.

  2. M.T. Anderson's novel Feed explores a cynical but plausible future in which all people in society have a feed in their heads. Nobody needs to read, write, and think anymore because the feed does it for them. Because of the feed, society has become apathetic and undereducated. As implied throughout the book, said society will eventually meet its demise. There's something to be learned from this story: If we become too reliant off of technology, there WILL be consequences.

    1. I agree. People in that society are undereducated from the feed. Also, In school they learn how to use their feed and not about what we learn about, like history and chemistry.

    2. I also think that M.T. Anderson is trying to tell a story of what could happen if people become to reliant on technology.

  3. I think that M.T. Anderson is looking at the growth of technology today and how it has effected people and society. In his book he explains his opinion on what will happen to society in the future if we keep becoming more and more dependent on technology. The value in reading this book in class is to become aware that technology isnt always good, it could also have side effects on society.

    1. I agree completely, M.T. Anderson was giving an example on how the world could end up like based on the studies of todays technology.

    2. I agree with this opinion that technology can have its side effects and that it is not always completely beneficial to our life.

    3. I agree. Even today we can see millions of people who are constantly relying on technology for everyday activities. Who knows what it will be like years from now.

    4. I agree, I feel as if some of the things that happen in feed are very closely related to the things that happen in real life.

    5. I also agree, today people are having problems being able to talk to one another person without using using their cell phones

  4. The value of reading the book Feed is to show how technology has taken over the way people will start to communicate in the future and how it controls their mind and bodies. The feed is a chip that is put in their brains to find the cheaper price on clothing and even entertain them. It also describes how people were listening to music and dancing, but no one else could hear it. It's very mind blowing that they could listen to anything or chatting anyone without anyone even knowing. I believe the purpose of M.T. Anderson writing this book is to tell people that technology is evolving everyday and it could get to the point where the feed could become a real device in our future generations. In my opinion, the most important lesson to take away from this book is that you should rely less on technology, and focus on your life rather than what other people are doing.

    1. I agree with this completely. It reminds me of when you're sitting in a room and you realize that no one is talking and everyone is on their phones. It really shows how technology is becoming a huge part of our lives.

  5. The value of reading Feed I think was to show readers just how much technology can take over in our world. The book also shows just how much people depend on technology in a daily basis rather than work for what people need. M.T. Anderson shows the reader how lazy people have become due to the feed working for the people. I think M.T. Anderson wrote this book so people may become aware to their surrounds and realize that humans are held responsible for their actions and that technology may over power our society. The lessons I learned from this book are to take a step back from technology and enjoy the times without it. I also learned to be aware of my surrounds and the effects that my actions can cause to the world or people.

    1. I agree with what you said completely. I think that you right, we aren't aware of our surroundings. We never think about the negative ffects of technology.

    2. I appreciate Mary's point about the consequences of our actions. A lot of the posts here are making general points about technology. Think about some of the specific implications the book has.

  6. The value of reading the book "Feed by M.T. Anderson" was to show people in this generation how not to create the future. In Feed humans destroy them selves, this happened because of technology. The technology created open wounds on them called lesions. My biggest concern through out this book was that they didn't care about them at all. They began to think it was normal because every one around them had one. The lesson the people in Feed learned was a guide for us on how to correct our mistakes.

    1. Thats a very good point bout the lack of care when it came to their own health. I too think that was a very concerning part of the story.

    2. The lesion weren't the only problems. The people also develop a cavalier attitude to what's happening around the world.

    3. It all depends on perspective and what other people think. For instance: if popular shows or movies show that pimples are cool then everyone begins to think like that. I don't think the lesions are a major health issue but they are certainly unpleasant, but if other people think they are cool then no one will be concerned.

    4. Sawyer makes an interesting point here about apathy, another key idea in the book.

  7. I think that the value of reading "Feed" was for the author to step back and observe what they thought the future of our society was becoming. The way that the characters react completely different to the dark future of their world than how we would react gives a sense that this has happened multiple times, for reasons unknown. When I read "Feed", it gave me a deep insight into what a extremely technologically involved society looks like. Another value to reading this book was seeing how a societies ideals of perfection can change so radically within a small amount of time. It also gave me the value of knowing how much technology can change the ideals of a society.

  8. The value of reading Feed by M.T Anderson is not to let technology take over. The world we see in feed is completely controlled by technology, the people rely on their "feeds" to do everything. I think that M.T Anderson is trying to create a world that could someday be ours. If we let technology advance to fast it will control us. While reading Feed I became worried, the world that Titus and his friends live in is not where I want to live. To have technology take over and do everything for you. At first I didn't think to much of the feeds, but when the lesions got worse I realized that the feeds have to many negative affects to ever work. The most important thing that I learnt from this book was that technology will take over, but only if we let it. We should stop trying to advance technology to the point where it does are jobs for us.

    1. Caitlin makes such a powerful point here when she says that "technology will take over, but only if we let it." This is a powerful theme.

    2. I completely agree with what Caitlin says. We rely on technology so much for everything we do now. I can agree with her about not wanting to live in that world. And yes we should stop advancing in technology, I think we have enough

  9. When I was reading the book, feed by M.T Anderson I found a few things of value. The first being the negative aspects of technology in our world. The book shows us on multiple occasions how technology can take over the social lives of everyone and can thus make us less intelligent as a result. The second thing I thought about when reading feed, was the pollution in the world. I feel that this book is a way of warning our generation of the dangers of pollution without giving a lecture. I feel its a good way for our generation to listen to the warnings and understand the consequeces. Lastly, I felt this book was also a way to show people how not to handle situations. What I mean is at the end of the book when Violet is dying, M.T. Anderson shows us that it is not okay to leave a friend in need. Overall I feel this book was a good way to get younger generations to heed the warnings of pollution and the overuse of technology.

    1. I like Andrew's point about how the book warns us about possible consequences without lecturing. Isn't it more effective to see a frightening vision of a possible future than to just have someone tell you over and over again now to be concerned about the environment?

  10. I think "Feed" is about how technology could affect us in a bad way. The Feeds purpose was to help people be more efficient, but the people used the feed in the wrong way. This lead to people no longer needing to read, write, or talk to each other directly and letting the Feed control their lives. The technology also effects how people judge the worth of a person. An example of is when Titus realized Violet was dying, he no longer wanted to be with since she was "broken". This book show what will happen if we allow our own technology to rule our lives.

  11. Like a lot of people are saying, I think the main message in the book Feed is about technology and how it is rapidly taking over our world. Society took a big step when the computer was created and has been quickly trying to beat the latest invention. You see this reflect into the book with the "feed" itself because it has changed the lives of all the characters. This is similar how cell phones have changed the lives of most Americans. I feel as though M.T Anderson is taking the problems in society today and blowing them out of proportion to show us how our world could end up. Also in the book you really notice how the characters are obsessed with having the next best thing, and how little they care about anything else. Violet is the only one who actually notices the world around her and tries to get that across to everyone else, but they see it as being weird and stupid. The overall message is to think about what really matters and how we shouldn't take our natural world for granted.

    1. I agree with your point that you make at the bottom, when you say think about what really matters. All of the characters in Feed are too concerned with little things that they lose importance for the important things in life. Good point

  12. In the book "Feed" by M.T. Anderson the book portrays that everyone is arrogant, unintelligent, and rely too much on technology. This relates to people today and how they think and act. The book teaches us to take action and "resist the Feed". Resisting the Feed means turning away from technology, and going against the crowd. It means to have a real life.

  13. The book "Feed" depicts a life well into the future where people are heavily reliant on technology for simple tasks such as learning and socializing. But I think this book is also trying to teach us a lesson. Already in today's world, we have people who are constantly on their phones and who would rather text or email someone than actually communicate with them in person. We also have become reliant on technology for other things such as shopping and learning, so where will this path take us a hundred years down the road? I think that M.T. Anderson was trying to say is that if we keep traveling on the same path we are today, then in the years to follow we wil become just like the people in the feed. A world where learning will be optional and talking with some one face to face will be a thing of the past.

  14. As many people are saying that the value of reading feed is to show how the future is influenced and changed by technology, there are other routes that can be taken. Another value to reading feed is to show what the future world could become if we completely stop caring about the environment we live in and what happens to the nature around us. M.T. Anderson may have wrote this to show us there is importance to care about where we live so we don't end up in a world with a polluted moon and air factories. The lesson we can take away from this is that it is very important to care about the environment and where we live, so we don't end up in a world like feed.

  15. I think the reason for reading this book was to show us how bad technology can actually be. I also think that M.T Anderson's purpose of this book was to basically warn us that if we became too reliant on technology then it could actually be dangerous. The most important lesson of this book is to realize that the things that happen in the book are related to the things that happen in our lives today. We might not be this far into the future with technology and our computers might not be in our heads, but we are sometimes still as reliant on technology as the characters in feed.

  16. I believe the value of reading the book feed was to open our eyes to where technology is taking us. M.T Anderson looked far into the future to predict where technology would end up. He used just enough facts from our reality today to make this seem as real as possible and show us the danger in the future. With that, I think this book is also very open ended, it leaves a lot of room for people to imagine and create themselves, in their head, how this society ended up with the feed. This is a value that comes with reading the book because it forces opinions to show, and creativity to be used. When dealing with such a realistic novel, very amusing conversations are created. I think M.T Anderson's purpose in writing the book was to make people think twice before mindlessly using the gadgets we have become accustomed to.

    1. I agree. We also need to control our use for these things. Our overuse will lead to our own destruction. With all the iPhones and Playstations and etc, we have basically set ourselves on a dangerous path

  17. The value in reading FEED is to enlighten us in what we would be like if we are too dependent on technology and how it affects all aspects of life; environmentally or socially for example. MT Anderson's purpose in this book is to teach us how life would be if we just shopped online and had it delivered immediately, being antisocial and just using chatrooms to communicate, or got rid of our natural resources and replace it with an even worse contraption like air factories. The book endedin such a way that left me thinking, "this leaves me to think we have the ability to change. We just do have the initiative to do so. The lesson we can take from this is that things, like lesions and air factories, that facinate us can become our own destruction. As I have written this, we already have a set path for ourselves in technology and fashion, etc. if we dont change, we won't have a good future to look forward to and enjoy.

  18. The value of reading in the book feed is very important because we learn that technology can completely take over our lives to the point where we don't even know how to read and write. Titus does not even know how to use pen and paper. I think the reason why MT Anderson wrote this book was too who us how bad it can or will get if we keep going at the rate we are at now. We are destroying our lives and the environment around us. In my opinion the most important lesson I took from this book was that technology can take over our lives and we need to slow our selves down before it gets too bad.

    1. I completely agree with Haylee that technology is taking over our lives. We are relying only on our cell phones and computers to communicate with our friends.

  19. I think the value in reading feed was to make more people aware about the effects of technology. This book really makes the reader think "what if', what if our society does get so technologically advanced that we can't even think for ourselves? The human race is slowly but surly making technology more of a priority than an accessory. I think we as a society should take a second look and see where these new inventions are heading.

  20. I think that the value in reading the book Feed is that you can learn how advance technology is getting and what the dangers are of how extreme it is. The lack of face to face communication is decreasing very fast and in the book there isn't any communication. I think M.T. Anderson's purpose in writing the book was to inform us how extreme technology can get and how dangerous it can be. One danger that is in the book is that nature is completely destroyed because the old technology gets thrown into their habitat and starts killing some of the animals and makes the animals move into cities. I think that the most important lesson to take away from this book is that technology is ruining face to face conversations, and overtime, I think that conversations will only be over text or on a chat.
